In 2019, ISTE acquired EdSurge, an independent education news site that delivers education-focused journalism and research, and supports the education industry with a Product Index, Jobs Board and more. In 2023, ISTE merged with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), combining expertise in technology and innovation with research-based professional learning for educators and education leaders.

It is a member-driven organization that brings together colleges, universities, higher education organizations, and companies to collectively improve the quality and reach of digital learning programs. WCET was founded by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) to meet a growing need to integrate distance learning and educational technology into the academic services of higher education institutions in the western (U.S.) region. Membership with WCET provides opportunities to connect with colleagues to advance policies and practices aimed at helping institutions succeed in implementing innovative academic technology initiatives.
