As Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Innovation, Charles Tucker provides campus-wide leadership in the area of undergraduate education, including setting strategic directions for the undergraduate experience at Illinois, supporting innovation in classroom and in online instruction, and encouraging interdisciplinary initiatives in curriculum and pedagogy.

Charles Tucker is the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Innovation.  He provides campus-wide leadership in the area of undergraduate education, including setting strategic directions for the undergraduate experience at Illinois, supporting innovation in classroom and in online instruction, and encouraging interdisciplinary initiatives in curriculum and pedagogy. He is also the Alexander Rankin Professor of Mechanical Science and Engineering. His research interests include processing of polymers and composite materials, modeling and simulation, numerical methods, fluid mechanics, and rheology.  His method for predicting flow-induced fiber orientation is used worldwide in injection molding simulation software.  Vice Provost Tucker earned B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in 1975, 1977, and 1978, respectively. He joined the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Illinois as an assistant professor in 1978 and most recently served as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in the College of Engineering.  He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers, the Society of Rheology and the Polymer Processing Society. He serves on the editorial board of International Polymer Processing.  He is the author, with Jonathan Dantizg, of Modeling in Materials Processing (Cambridge University Press, 2001) and the editor of Fundamentals of Computer Modeling in Polymer Processing (Hanser Publishers, 1989)
