As Interim Associate Chancellor and Vice Provost for Global Affairs & Strategies, Colleen Murphy provides leadership to Illinois International in cultivating relationships with institutions around the world while bringing together the university’s vast on-campus international presence.

Professor Murphy currently serves as associate dean for academic affairs and the Roger and Stephany Joslin Professor of Law in the College of Law. She holds courtesy appointments in the departments of Philosophy and Political Science. Since joining the university in 2012, her leadership roles on campus have included chair of the Illinois Scholars at Risk Program committee, director of the Center for the Study of Global Gender Equity (formerly Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program) within the Illinois Global Institute (IGI), and acting executive director of the IGI. She currently serves as a Provost Fellow in the Office of the Provost. 

Her research focuses on moral, political, and legal theory. She has authored two books, co-edited four books, and authored or co-authored more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, law review articles, and book chapters. She holds a M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.
