Advanced Composition

Advanced Composition Learning Outcomes

During the Spring 2019 General Education Assemblies for Learning Outcomes, faculty groups began to develop learning outcomes for the Advanced Composition Requirement. Then, smaller Working Groups from these Assemblies along with students and advisors worked together to digest the information from the larger group and to create draft learning outcomes for Advanced Composition (see below).

We invite feedback from the campus community on these outcomes.

After taking a course in Advanced Composition, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze and synthesize relevant information from multiple primary and secondary sources. (C-SLO 1 &2)
  2. Locate, gather, and evaluate data, primary sources, secondary sources, and other evidence by employing discipline-specific research methods. (C-SLO 1 &2)
  3. Produce a variety of written and/or multi-media compositions for specialist and/or non-specialist audiences. (C-SLO 1 &2)
  4. Engage in writing and research as recursive processes, including drafting, review, revision, and reflection. (C-SLO 1, 2 & 5)
