Charge Letter
Thank you for agreeing to serve or continuing to serve on the Off-Cycle Campus Committee on Promotion and Tenure for the 2025-26 academic year.
The committee’s charge is to act in an advisory capacity to the provost on matters of promotion and tenure for faculty members by considering policy questions related to Provost Communication #9 and making recommendations for promotion and tenure appointments. The committee reviews tenure dossiers of candidates that units are considering for tenured faculty positions or faculty members that units would like to tenure and/or promote outside of the current P&T review calendar (e.g., for retention purposes). Executive Vice Provost Bill Bernhard will serve as the provost’s liaison to the committee.
Off-cycle reviews are performed entirely online through a secure site. Jean Hanks (jhanks@illinois.edu), Assistant to the Executive Vice Provost, will notify you when a tenure dossier is available for review. A copy of the Provost’s Communication #9 (Promotion and Tenure) is attached for your review.
The Off-Cycle Campus Committee on Promotion and Tenure is crucial to ensuring academic excellence on our campus. It is critical to our efforts to build strong faculty capacity. I appreciate your willingness to contribute your expertise to this exceptionally important service and I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
John Coleman
Provost
