Charge Letter
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for your willingness to serve on the Campus Awards & Honors Committee for the 2025-26 academic year.
The committee serves in an advisory capacity to support campus-wide efforts in identifying and nominating faculty scholars for prestigious awards and honors, and is charged with the following responsibilities:
- Review criteria and guidelines for major national and international honors, awards, and prizes, and identify potential candidates whose career achievements make them compelling nominees for such awards based on the criteria. In some cases, the committee will want to map out multi-year plans and strategies for future nominations.
- Review and evaluate nominations and provide awardee recommendations for each of the three categories of Campus Awards for Excellence in Faculty Leadership, three categories of Campus Awards for Excellence in Public Engagement and two categories of the University Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Awards.
Professor Lynne Thomas has agreed to chair the committee. Professor Sheldon Jacobson has agreed to serve as vice chair and will serve as chair of the committee in the 2026-28 academic years. Melissa Chan from the Provost’s Office will serve as an ex officio member of the committee.
The collective knowledge of this committee will provide a systematic and organized process for these important awards and your work will have a positive impact on enhancing the visibility of the full range of scholarship at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
