With special guest: Kerry Ann Rockquemore
National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity

"Writing Your Next Chapter: How to Move Forward at Mid-Career"

May 3, 2012

Illini Union – Pine Lounge
8:30AM-12:00PM

A strong commitment to faculty development is a crucial priority for any successful major research university.  Indeed, a productive and motivated faculty underlies many of the goals of this campus.  The mid-career period for faculty is pivotal in shaping the trajectory of research, teaching, and leadership activities for years to come.

This symposium is part of an annual series of workshops for mid-career faculty sponsored by the Provost’s Office.   We have invited Dr. Rockquemore, Executive Director of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, to lead a spring workshop on “Writing Your Next Chapter.”  Dr. Rockquemore is a nationally recognized expert on issues pertaining to faculty development and career advancement.  She has worked with faculty at numerous universities across the country including University of Wisconsin, Ohio State, and MIT.   The workshop will focus on time management, research progress, work-family balance, and how to maintain passion for your work.  Over the course of the 3-hour session, participants will learn the common challenges that mid-career faculty face, effective strategies for dealing with the path to full professor, and how to develop a personalized plan for this career phase.

This symposium also provides mid-career faculty with an opportunity to make important connections among peers outside of their immediate disciplines.

Registration for this workshop is simple, just visit https://illinois.edu/sb/sec/184579, enter your name and department and click “Save”.

The next workshop in the series will be held in the early fall 2012 semester.  If you have questions about this series or would like to provide input to our planning, please contact Professor Tony Liss, Provost Fellow (tml@illinois.edu).
