The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Media. The University strongly encourages nominations of, as well as applications from, women and minorities.
The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with proven management skills and a record of success in obtaining external funding through grants and/or fundraising. Candidates whose backgrounds are in a university setting should hold a Ph.D. and have a distinguished record of teaching and scholarly or research accomplishments. Candidates whose backgrounds are in a professional setting should have a distinguished record of professional accomplishments and demonstrate an appreciation for scholarly achievement and the purposes and distinctive nature of university life.
The College of Media is an accredited, highly selective, and internationally respected college where almost 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students are engaged in classes taught by distinguished scholars in media studies, world-renowned experts in advertising and consumer behavior and award-winning journalists, including Pulitzer Prize winners. The College includes four undergraduate programs in Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, News-Editorial Journalism and Media and Cinema Studies; master’s degrees in Advertising and Journalism; and a Ph.D. in Communications and Media. The College has a $5 million budget and its three academic units and administrative functions employ 42 faculty, 7 academic professional employees, and 12 staff employees. Illinois Public Media (WILL-AM-FM-TV) has a $6 million budget and employs over 100 people, including 2 with faculty appointments in the division, 60 academic professional employees, and 21 staff employees.

The Dean of the College of Media is a University of Illinois senior administrator, with a tenured faculty appointment (zero-time), who serves as a member of the Council of Deans and reports to the Provost. This full-time, 12-month appointment has a start date that is negotiable. Salary is commensurate with experience.
