Gutgsell Endowed Professor:
Stephen Long
Professor Stephen Long received a B.Sc. in Agricultural and Horticultural Botany from the University of Reading (UK) in 1972 and a Ph.D. in Environmental Plant Physiology from the University of Leeds (UK) in 1976. Early in his career, Professor Long made seminal contributions to the understanding of how C4 photosynthesis is regulated by temperature. More recently, he has focused on understanding the mechanisms of plant responses to elevated levels of carbon dioxide and ozone in the atmosphere, two important components of climate change. According to the ISI HighlyCited and the Science Citation Index, Professor Long is one of the 250 most cited scientists worldwide in the field of “animal and plant biology,” and he is one of the 20 most cited authors in the field of global warming.
Professor Long holds appoints in the Departments of Crop Sciences and Plant Biology as well as the Institute for Genomic Biology.
